Group Exercise for Marquis' Potential for a Future Like Ours

Group Work Summary: In groups, test the limits of Marquis' main principle, the FLO, which consists of "the goods of life are those items toward which we take a "pro" attitude.  They are completed projects of which we are proud, the pursuits of our goals, aesthetic enjoyments, friendships, intellectual pursuits, and physical pleasures of various sorts.  The goods of life are what makes life worth living."     

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Step 0):  Be assigned a trait:

 

a) "completed projects of which we are proud"

 

b) "pursuits of our goals"

 

c) "aesthetic enjoyments"

 

d) "friendships"

 

e) "intellectual pursuits"

 

d) "physical pleasures of various sorts"

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Step 1 (ten minutes): Individually, write out 1) good, 2) mediocre, and 3) bad examples of your FLO trait. 

 

a) "completed projects of which we are proud"

 

b) "pursuits of our goals"

 

c) "aesthetic enjoyments"

 

d) "friendships"

 

e) "intellectual pursuits"

Step 2 (ten minutes):  In groups discuss, in turn, your examples. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Step 3 (ten minutes):  In groups, craft your group's 1) good, 2) mediocre, and 3) bad examples of your FLO trait.
