First Essay Prompt

This assignment amounts to 5% of your course grade.

 

In three pages (that is, in no fewer than three pages, and no more than three and a half pages), using what we've learned from the so-far assigned parts of the They Say, I Say text, and drawing on your own college experiences:

 

1) explain the significance of Delbanco's "'whole person'" from his "College at Risk";

 

2) explain the significance of Socrates' claim that "the unexamined life is not worth living" from Plato's "Apology";  

 

3) explain one significant experience in college so far that fits or doesn't fit with Delbanco's claims about higher education when it comes to the notion of the "'whole person'"; and

 

4) argue, in light of what you've written in 1), 2), and 3), for or against one of Delbanco's claims about higher education when it comes to the notion of the "'whole person.'"
