Writing Group Exercise on Research
(Notes on the importance of group exercises.)
Group Work Summary: In groups discuss your research topics.
Step 1 (five minutes): Identify your research topic (e.g., implicit bias, self-awareness, other-awareness, etc.). Identify your research sub-topic, if you have one (e.g., food, racism, your major, age-bias, video games, healthcare, policing, advertising, etc.).
Step 2 (five minutes): In groups, discuss your particular research topic, and sub-topic. Help any colleagues in your group discover their sub-topic, if they need one.
Step 3 (ten minutes): In the same groups, assist each other in coming up with a list of synonyms for their topic and sub-topic for use in research databases.
Step 4 (one minute): Submit a sheet of paper for your group with today's date and your group members' names it, and "Research Synonyms" as a title.
