Group Exercise on the Experience of Unconscious Behaviors

(Notes on the importance of group exercises.

Group Work Summary: In groups discuss your experiences of others' unconscious behaviors.

Step 1 (ten minutes): Individually, describe an instance where you think that you may have experienced unconscious behavior in someone else.  What happened?  What made you think that the person in question may have been unconsciously behaving in some way?  Did you have any reason to believe that the person in question was in fact conscious of their behaviors?  (If you don’t know of an instance of unconscious behavior, try and invent one.)

Step 2 (ten minutes):  In groups, discuss your experiences of others' unconscious behaviors.

Step 3 (ten minutes):  In groups, craft one, exemplar instance of someone else's unconscious behaviors.  Prepare an explanation of your instance to help someone understand your group's exemplar instance of someone else's unconscious behaviors.

Step 4 (ten minutes):  Each group presents their exemplar instance of someone else's unconscious behaviors.
